Unique off grid stay but wouldn’t book again due to safety concern Negative: Overall, the accommodation can provide a decent stay for someone looking for a unique, off the grid experience on a lava field. However, the description and pictures of the property were not fully accurate in our view and safety / quality concerns did not justify the price tag. - Safety: Most importantly, there is no proper lock for the master bedroom. From the outside, it is secured with a chain that can easily be removed with a screwdriver or a coin and from the inside it is a very basic lock (feels like it could be opened without much strength or tools). The bathroom cannot be locked from the outside so technically available to the public. The description mentions a locked gate at the entrance of the site - the gate was never locked during our two night stay (arrived at 10pm both days) and there is no fence left and right of the gate, even a car would be able to pass In general the wider area did not feel very safe. - Cleanliness: Bathroom had a lot of insects inside. Given this is a remote and off the grid location this is understandable but should be noted In general, the amenities do not look quite as modern as the pictures suggest - Location: The house is not standalone on a lava field but part of a wider community with further houses in the near vicinity

A must-stay place on the Big Island! Positive: It was such an amazing place! Unlike anything we’ve ever stayed in.

Unique stay on a lava field Positive: Clear directions for arrival and check out. The lanai was the best part. Bathroom was clean and spacious. We appreciated using the laundry. Negative: I didn’t realize other properties would be so close to Ohana House.

This is the weirdest and most amazing place I have ever stayed. Positive: This is the weirdest and most amazing place I have ever stayed. The lava field was incredible and the house is comfortable and super cute. I can't imagine spending two weeks there but for a couple of nights it was perfect. What an experience! Negative: It was very hot until the evening breeze cooled things down. And there was only one hammock chair (which we all loved and so was hotly contested!)
